Does this mean my python is comfortable?
So it's been six days since I brought Draco home. For the first few days he was understandably nervous, he was curled in his hiding spot and wouldn't come out. Lately, he has been poking his head out, and his head sometimes rests outside too. I even woke up this morning and found him curled up in the rock hideout on the cool side, which I never saw him in. He also ate for me yesterday. Does the fact that he's sticking his head out more often mean he's more comfortable with the environment? I don't want to stress him out, I had another topic about him living his whole life in a breeder bin and now he's in a glass vivarium. I really want to handle him but I don't want him to be too stressed.
I guess my main question is, how can you really tell besides them eating for you when a snake is comfortable in a new habitat?

Sounds like it. Lol. Don't hold him two days after eating tho. Enjoy your pet.

Re: Does this mean my python is comfortable?
if he's eating, he's comfortable. him poking his head out to see what's up, well, my snakes poke out if their hides every time I enter my room, I guess they feel the door open or something. it may be a sign he's comfortable, for sure.

Eating is a good sign, and so is hanging out in different areas of the cage - all very solid indicators of a happily settled in snake.
I'd wait until he eats at least one more time in your care before starting to handle him, just in case. Better safe than sorry.

I like to let my snakes decide if they want to be handled, I'll open the cage and wait a few minutes...peanut is a real busy body and will usually slink right out of his hide and up my arm.
If he just stays put or hides then I figure he doesn't want to be bothered and just close him back up.
Id say Draco sounds pretty comfy. As long as he's settled for a few days after eating you should be fine handling him soon, as long your comfortable doing it and he's mellow acting, then I'm sure it'll be fine.
As previously mentioned, enjoy your pet!

Thanks everyone! I'm not sure why I was a little intimidated on bringing him out.. He's my first snake and I'm still new at this. But he came out and he was a very curious boy. He moves too fast to get a clear picture

He's very pretty. Sounds like he's settling in. Though eating is the best sign of a content snake. Him leaving his head out of the hide could be him waiting for prey to walk by. Have you tried feeding him yet?

Yes I fed him Thursday morning and he readily ate it. The breeder says he will eat medium rats or two smalls, and he gave me a big bag of frozen smalls to start me out. I offered him a second rat and he didn't take it, so I'll try again in a few days.

How many grams is he? I would think one small rat every seven days would be ok...

I'm honestly not too sure. I don't have a method of weighing him but I do plan on getting a scale sometime.
1.0 Spider Ball Python (Draco)
0.1 Blue Eyed Leucistic (Nagini)
