    Animals in Jars

So, I saw this thread and decided to contribute, though my stuff isn't the 'traditional' creative type. I create ethically sourced wet specimens. Wet specimens are animals or animal parts that have been specially preserved and be kept in jars of holding liquid. They're typically used for scientific specimens, but they're really great for anyone who's into the weird/creepy/oddity kind of thing. All the animals/parts I use are ethically sourced, meaning that no animals were killed for my pieces. All parts were found as roadkill, died of natural causes, or were scraps/throw away parts received from taxidermists. I like that I can take something that might go to waste or be thrown away and give it new 'life.' I sell them at my shop, called The Pickled Fox. but I tend to keep most for my personal collection.

When I was at the NARBC last weekend there was a vendor who had stuff like this. There were snakes in jars, giant tortoises cut in half so you can see the bones.

It was so cool! I almost came home with (what looked like) a big milk snake in a jar.
    I've got quite a few...

I'd hope that's a crow, ravens are illegal to possess in the US

Both Ravens and Crows are illegal to be kept in the US to be honest.

They are considered migratory birds, and are therefore protected by federal laws, so one would need to have a permit to keep a living one.

There are no laws on keeping a dead one in a jar however
    I've got quite a few...

Weeeellllll, technically there are. The same laws that prohibit the keeping of a live bird also prohibit the possession of any "part, nest, or eggs of any such bird", living or dead. This includes feathers and body parts (or entire bodies). But I won't tell anyone if you won't. And I most certainly don't have any whole specimens in my freezer pending donation to the local museum collection... nooooo...

Edit: Here's a summary of the law, for those interested.
