    hog off feed?

So after a couple months of steady eating every 4-7 days (ft pinks and then upped to fuzzys) my hog stopped eating. its been about 4 weeks now and he's still too small to miss that much feeding.

Humidity ranges 40-50 temps are 75-80 cool and 90-95 warm side small water dish, on aspen bedding.

Next step im thinking either scenting with tuna/chicken or getting a live pinkie.

    Thoughts?

    Re: hog off feed?

Breeding season, all our males and some females have quite eating. If he has been feeding regularly on unscented, dont start scenting now. Just monitor his weight

I wouldn't say breeding season if he's still on fuzzies. Monitor his weight. Mine is on pinkies yet and I haven't got him to eat consistently yet

I was just going from the statement about it eating steady for a few months. Male hogs will start going off feed this time of year because of both breeding season and brumation.

    hog off feed?

This is the time of year where males, especially, go off feed. As soon as the temps dropped, I had a couple stop eating right away. It didn't matter that the tubs were warm. I think they react to the changes in barometric pressure. What is the weight of your hog?

35-40 gram is most defiantly coming into breeding size.

    Re: hog off feed?

All the hoggies and corns in my house are brumating right now, with the exception of the littlest albino hog, who's only about 15g. The little guy is keeping my ball pythons company in their dedicated (and independently heated) room, the rest are at ambient house temperature, somewhere around 60F during the day. None of them will eat for a total of about 6 weeks, once we warm them up they'll be ready for eating and breeding. I don't think I'd worry about a 40g hog that isn't eating for a few weeks right now, just keep an eye on him and make sure he's not losing body condition or showing any signs of illness.

    hog off feed?

If he was closer to 35g, he is probably at his true "empty" weight now. You could choose to brumate him as he may be in that mode already. Hogs go off feed this time of the year to empty out before brumation.
