Re: Do you like to take your snakes places ?

I would love to take my snakes with me wherever I went but it isn't a good idea. I wouldn't want to give reptiles an even worse rep by scaring people with them. This has been brought up before on the forum and people aren't a big fan of this practice.

No. The only reason people take their BP out with them everywhere they go is to get attention. It's not good for the snake, and the snake doesn't enjoy it. It's not fun and exciting for the snake. I put my snakes' needs before my own.

It also scares a lot of people and we don't need the negative attention with the move to try to ban snake ownership.

There is absolutely no reason to take your snake anywhere, except to a vet, to an expo for sale or display, or for an educational show if you do that type of thing. Taking your snake in public will only feed the fire for more regulations, showing how "irresponsable snake owners are bringing giant killer pythons out where they could escape and harm the public." Or at least thats how its likely to get spun. The animal does not like going for walks, car rides, swims at the neighborhood pool. Its perfectly happy in its bin/terrarium where it has proper conditions needed to thermoregulate.

Re: Do you like to take your snakes places ?

I bring my male Red Tail Boa to the local pet store every few months for a short amount of time, most of the people in the store are very interested in knowing more about him and want to pet him/handle him, i do make sure i keep a reasonable distance between myself and those that are afraid of him though, i respect their fear of snakes and it would defeat my whole purpose of bringing him out if i didn't respect those people - Most of the time those that are afraid of him end up asking questions and even petting him because i didn't force them to interact with him, they feel comfortable with both myself and my snake.

It seems like you are only bringing your snake out in public to get attention be it negative or positive which makes me believe you are insecure and i also think it is disturbing that you find it funny that people are afraid of your snake that in itself shows you have no respect for other people and shines negative light on the reptile industry as these people will assume all reptile keepers are like you.
The last thing that worries me is you describe your snake as "friendly", you need to remember that your snake is still an unpredictable wild animal and you need to treat her as such, not drag her around with you everywhere you go until she ends up biting someone because she is so stressed out and you are not paying attention to her like you should be because you are convinced she's "friendly".

I'll take one of my mine to the pet store sometimes (I've met some nice herpers that way) and I do educational type things sometimes for various places, such as where I work where I do presentations on snakes occasionally. I don't take them out to random places though. I agree with the fact that it can put us in an even worse light than we are, and stresses out the snake.

The pet store is the last place I'd take my snakes.
They stay in the house unless I'm doing a photo shoot outside in the yard.

100% on what eatgoodfood says! Mine go to the vet, expos for sale, to their New homes, and educational shows! Which btw I'm doing a show in 3 hours for our local cub scout troop. And another one tomorrow evening for the boy scouts.
