    What am I doing wrong?

Need help. I have a 1.3 colony one of my females had a litter a few weeks ago but only 4 babies, they did not take care of them, and they all died. Sunday night I think it was, one of the other females had a litter of 8, they were taking care of them, I observed her nursing them, all was good. Thismorning I checked on them when I woke up and found one what looked to be a partially eaten baby in the nest and two whole looking babies dead outside the nest. I dont know If I am doing something that caused this or not. They have plenty of food and water, live in a fairly large bin, ca. 75cm x 30cm in a rack. Now 2 of my 3 females are crazy aggressive, you put your hand in the bin and they come running towards you and bite, idk if that has anything to do with it. Im half tempted to feed off the whole colony and start over. I do have a second colony but they are all far too young to breed. Its getting frustrating because it seems like I will never have feeders of my own just have to keep buying.....

    Dont give up!
Ive had my ASFs since May. Tonight, mama is giving birth. This will be my second litter from this colony.

If they've eaten the babies twice, I'd feed them off and start over. I give my girls one more chance if they kill/eat the first litter. If it happens again I'll feed her off.

honestly dont know the brand i can findout tomorrow. its lab block i buy it from my reptile store, great guy, knows his stuff. He buys bulk for all his colonies. I just buy it a few kilos at a time in plastic bags for cheap. Ill ask him what it is when I bring him his new bp and pikup feeders tomorrow.

Make sure they have plenty of food and water at all times. And give her another chance, I have had a new mom eat babies before.

We give the moms a second chance then feed them off too, some moms get aggressive after having their first litter too. We find that the babies from our calm colonies tend to be more calm as well.

Re: What am I doing wrong?

I've been breeding them for a year and a half. They all get nasty when they have babies. I've had them charge across the cage and bite my knuckle to the bone. I'd rather a Ball python bite. They are easy to breed, and they don't smell as bad as Norwegian rats. Most times they will stop eating the babies after the first litter.
