Questions on weened ASF's
I am new to breeding ASF's and have a few questions. So far I have the breeding part down, they have babies all the time, my question is what to do once they are weened. Right now I have all the babies that are weened in a separate tub so that they do not suffocate the younger babies.
-When does it become necessary to separate the males and the females or do they stay together?
-If I do separate them, how do I get them into colonies at breeding size without them fighting?
Thank you in advance for your help.

ASF's take a long time to start breeding, if you have them separated by 3 months or so, you'll be fine. Probably best off keeping the groups you want to breed later together.

I usually wean my asf's within 5 to 6 weeks. I keep all weaned males an females in different bins. If I need to setup new breeding colonies I do it at this time. I do 3 or 4 females to one male, and set them up and leave them there until I get babies. If I ever have to replace a female in a colony i just do it with a younger female, but replacing a male is a little more difficult.

I don't wean until I absolutely have to. ASFs won't breed until 3-4 months of age. When I separate, I would form colonies at that time.
It's harder to make colonies when they're older. I've had males attack females too.

We wean at 4 weeks, at this time we separate the sexes. We haven't had problems with letting them grow to 3months before settling up the colonies. I've successfully added different females to colonies, but never a male if it wasn't put in as a fuzzy and let grow up.
