    Removing UTH

Moving my snake out of his 20gal tank into a new enclosure. I am wondering if its possible to take the ZooMed UTH off the tank without damaging it. I'd like to re-use it if I can. Package said don't remove once attached or it voids warranty (not that I care about that).

I figure I can use some goo-gone and work it off with a putty knife. Has anyone done this before? Is it pointless to even try? Next time I'll use some foil tape and tape the thing on, didn't know better at first.

Those things are pretty much designed to break if you try to remove them... you can try to get it off, but I doubt that it will still work properly.

They don't work properly when they are brand new.

I've seen more than my fair share of zoomed heaters removed off tanks. Most of which were just yanked off and slapped back on to another tank, and all seemed to work as well as they ever had (keeping in mind they still need a thermostat). Too much yanking and tugging I'm sure itsn't good, but they loose their stickiness pretty quickly, and subsequent yankings become less dramatic. If you have a paint scraper, peel up an edge with your fingers, and use it to sort of pry the rest of it off, causing the least amount of stress on the item itself.

Yeah it's a pieae of junk. I can see where its starting to lose adhearance in the middle. So it would probably come off easy. I don't use it as a primary heat source, the room is too cold, its just a little something extra for belly heat on the warm side.

    Re: Removing UTH

If you want to avoid this problem again, I took advice from someone and stuck in foil to the sticky part then taped with electrical tape.

    Zoomed - yes
    Exo terra - No.

I've reused zoomed UTH's no problem. Adhessive held well and worked fine afterwards, just be careful removing it.

    Cheers,
    Chris.

Mind you - I have reused an exo-terra pad too. But exo terra you have to tape back onto the enclousre using aluminum pipe tape, or heat resistant duct tape.

Just be caeful removing it and you should be fine. If you notice the adhesive is loosing it's hold, just pick up some aluminum tape from the hardware store.

    Cheers.

Yep, easiest way is to put foil on the sticky side and use foil tape to tape on the enclosure.
