    Changing from Live to Frozen

My friend has a Ball Python that he wants to trade for my Albino Corn Snake. The only problem is that he feeds his live rats and I won't be able to do that. I need to know if there are any problems with switching from Live to frozen.

    Thanks in advance. CCarr

There can be plenty of problems. Has this guy tried frozen thawed? I had a pastel het clown who would flee from a frozen rat... I pulled it out, placed a live one in, and it struck and constricted, then consumed as if it hadn't seen a rodent in months...

They can be quite picky. Getting them to eat what you want them to eat can be quite frustrating. I'd say keep your corn, tell him to sell or re-home his ball python, and get a BP who is already taking f/t .

There may be no issue, there may be many. Bp's are known to be picky. Some will only take rats and others will only take mice. Some will only take live and some will only hit pre killed, and others will eat anything put in front of them. Is it possible to try the switch before the trade? If so read up on proper feeding of F/T methods and ways of switching them over if you arent already familiar with them and give it a shot. Only way to know for sure is to try.

Another thing is that I live an hour and a half away and how should I transport them? I've heard pillow cases and cardboard boxes with holes in it.

Either one of your plans work fine. I had 3 new snakes to bring on a 3 hour drive home. Kept them in the little deli cups they came in. They were fine .

Longest drive with a snake was 2 an a half hours. I put them in a pillowcase, twisted the top, and set them in the aquarium I had in the back of the car.

I'd suggest bringing an extra pillowcase just in case. When I took bobba to the vet, he ended up peeing on the way there -_-
