    Morelia amethistina in the States?

Doing a little research and finding conflicting information. Was initially looking into Scrub Pythons and found at some point in the past 10-15 years they split them into various species and subspecies. Well Morelia amethistina is the one I am curious about but I can't seem to find anything more recent than about 2004 on them here in the states. Anyone know anything?

I can't find them on any banned list except Florida and that is a old enough listing it may not be applicable anymore.

Nothing I'm interested in anytime soon but down the road a year or two, possibly. Just trying to do some homework now rather than later.

I don't know much about the Amethystines, except that the longest one in captivity is around 16-17 ft long.
You can probably find some experts here, who can answer your questions:

I'm nearly postive that there are no breeders of Scrub Pythons in the US, and with current bans on australian exporting there would be no way to get a wild caught line into the states. Paul Harris in the UK would be the only other choice to look into, if anyone has a lineage that is importable at the least, it would be him. The breeders of Carpets in the US for all your rare stuff would be Nick Mutton (www.inlandreptile.com) and Justin Julander (www.australianaddiction.com) you can email either of these guys and they can tell you exactly whether or not scrub pythons are available outside of Australia.

Yeah Nick Mutton at inland reptiles had the largest collection of scrubs in the u.s. at one point. He's a smart cat too! Answers all phone calls & emails!
    A bunch of carpet pythons!

Yes, amethystines are readily available in the US, and are being bred by a few people. Follow Vyprez' link to MP.com, they will help you.

And to reptileexperts, the amethystines are being exported from whatever country it is that controls the western half of the island of new guinea (Irian Jaya I believe). The ones from Australia are M. kinghorni.

This is a great detailed care sheet from probably one of the most experienced scrub keepers in the country, he also has alot of great animals. Unfortunatly he is no longer breeding but has recently become active again on MP.com.

This is by far my favorite python species, once you see one in person you will be totally hooked. The colors are amazing, and they are also extremely irredescent. They do have quite the attitude though, and are insanely intelligent. They look you right in the eye almost like they're reading your soul so to speak. If you do end up getting I guarantee you will love it.
