    Toys :)

What have you all found to be good toys for ASFs.

Mine don't destroy or play with paper or toilet paper tubes

Am looking for more ways to enrich my breeders lives.

I picked up some cat balls that they love to pick up and carry around.

They also have a wheel in their cage, but they all tend to sit/use it at the same time so it's gotten bent (4th wheel >_>) an keeps squeaking. Could maybe a wheel made for a larger (guinea pig, rabbit) last longer since it's made for more weight?

I used to make a "pinata" for my rats. I'd take about 3 paper towels (you can use more or less to add or remove resistance) and put a handful of treats: trail mix, cereal, candy, nuts, fruit, peanut butter, or whatever in it and then tie the top closed (use a safe for rodents string, I used dental floss) so it made a pouch. Then I tied it to the top of their cage so they could barely reach it. In the case of your asfs you could just lay it in their tub. They have a ton of fun ripping it up and reading the treats.

Otherwise the only toys I usually give my feeders are fun snake-playmates.

    Re: Toys :)

I give my rats a wodent wheel and I highly recommend it! It is made of plastic, so they will chew it a bit, but if they are running on it they can't chew it at the same time! Also, it is very quiet. As for stuff for them to play with? I don't really have much. They do like to chew up the paper towel rolls, but the wheel is by far the favorite. I also have some wooden blocks for them to chew. It seems like all they really do is chew, run, eat, and poo!

Our asfs love their wheel. It squeeks along all night long. My ratties like to chew the wooden chew sticks. They don't use the wheel much.

use veggie oil or shortning on a squeky wheel, youll have to reapply now and then but it works

    Re: Toys :)

We ALWAYS use wheels for our asfs, but also add ping pong balls, cat toys(balls) with bells inside them, wooden dice (not the painted kind), wooden ladders, and also hang a treat ka bob (by Super Pet) or two from the top of the cage, and slide on my own cookies, mineral blocks, and wood chews.Super Pet also makes special small animal chews and treats specially for the ka bobs as well.

oh, and one more thing...empty cigar boxes. these are great nesting boxes, and the asfs love to chew and hide in them, and because theyre made out of wood last longer too.

My asf's love to chew on my finger. It's better than a chew stick. Plus its like a squishy toy if they bite hard enough cool stuff comes out.

Last time we had rats I was in love with our boy and would constantly play games with him. During the summer we would go diving for frozen pees in a bowl of water, or play fight (he never bit me), also I would burry seeds and other fun things in a tupperware container full of dirt so he could dig them up. Try this website they have some cheap ideas for entertainment:
