Yes I would agree, I would wait for a while. Get sometime behind you with your Ball. Bloods are Great but are not Balls. Enjoy your new family member and keep us updated on things.

I found this thread a really interesting read and give my thanks to all of the people that replied with positive feedback on Bloods. I had recently considered risking the wrath of my hubby to get a baby Blood. However, on another forum I had commented on another member's Blood pictures he had posted and mentioned that I would like to get one some day. His responses pretty much turned me off of getting the Blood altogether. He said that while his two weren't typically nippy, that the majority of them were biters and had really hot tempers that were on a short fuse. The video of the striking snake he provided pretty much did it for me and I chose not to go that route. It is nice to hear that other people have them and find them to be a pleasure to keep. While I know they are much more difficult than a BP, I didn't think you needed to be a snake expert aficionado to own one.
I think you'll find bloods to have some similarities to your BRB. Both can be nippy as youngsters, and both prefer to be kept cooler than other tropical species. Bloods & STPs have a bad reputation started by the surly WC animals that came in many years ago, and perpetuated by keepers with little to no experience with - or understanding of - these snakes. Captive breeding efforts have demonstrated that all three species can be very docile animals to work with, and they aren't rocket science to keep. Glad to see that you're doing some additional research!

Kara, thanks so much for your input. I have had the best of luck with my BRB. He has never been nippy and is just as docile as my Corns. Some day I do believe I really will get into the Bloods. They are beautiful snakes and I have admired them for some time. As for doing the research....I always do as much as I can before I dive in......its the same with all of my animals. That's the only way to ensure you are providing them with the best care possible.
