    Hides in tub racks

The other day I posted here it it was ok to keep my 1500G Female in 32 quart tub.
A few said not a problem.

Today of course I realized, that a big enough hide to fit her, takes up more than half the space, and the water bowl, takes up another 20%, leaving not much room for the big girl.

Is a hide mandatory in tub rack (clear tubs)?

Hides are completely your choice. I have hides in almost all of my tubs (clear as well) and they are used. Others I see never using the hide so I will remove it for more floor space. My large girls (that are still in 32) are 1/2 hide and then 1/4 for the water but they lay on top of the hide as well so its kinda like having a 2 story house.

As long as shes eating and doesnt seem stressed then she doesnt need one. I still give my bigger girls hides but they dont need them. They still seem to have enough room to move for now and my biggest girl is 1500 grams. Maybe a little bit longer and then ill take them out.

Every snake is different, some will want a hide still, some will not. It's up to the keeper to figure out each of their animals needs.

Funny you mention the 2 story house! I just moved my snakes from (roomy) display cages to a small rack. Sure enough, this female's first move was to go on top of the hide!

I will give them a week to get comfortable in their new digs before i try to feed.

I don't use hides in my tubs. If the snakes need refuge they simply go under the paper I use as substrate.

I wouldn't say it's mandatory, but as others have mentioned, watch the snake's behavior. If she continues to feed without the hide in there, you can leave it out. If she stops eating, put the hide back in.

Just watch your snake, if she is happy without the hide, you don't need to keep one in. That's really all there is to it!

Actually my opinion is that the hide isn't "taking up space" because the area inside the hide is also "space". Right?
