Twitter: Pros and Cons for business use?

Hey all...

I have been looking into setting up profiles for a small business on different social networking sites and am horribly unfamiliar with Twitter and the general idea behind it. I've setup a small business page on facebook which makes sense to me since I am familiar with the platform, but I am just lost in the world of tweets, following and hashtags.

I was hoping the BP.Net community would be able to outline and explain some of the pros and cons you encounter while using this as a 'marketing tool' so to speak with your small or large breeding business.

Went ahead and setup an account for the time being (@TheSnakeHunter), but would really like to hear your input and tips on using Twitter for your business.
