Bloated with poop
Hey guys, quick question. When a snake is incredibly bloated around its cloaca and hasn't pooped since eating, does this mean that it's constipated?
I have heard my sister in law talk about her vet squeezing down the length f her corn snake to get the poop out. Is this something that is normally done to ball pythons as well? Or just corn snakes?
Thank!

No, they are capable of passing their own waste...I have some that only go when they shed, which is several weeks sometimes. Sausage butt is normal

I question your sister in laws vet's knowledge of herps if he treated her cornsnake like a tube of toothpaste lol...
Some of mine only go once a month and others only go after they shed which can be even further spread out.
I have heard of assist pooping for really backed up snakes (blocked by huge urates or something), but that seems it would be a very late resort.

If you're worried about it, soaking them and/or letting them roam around usually does the trick.

Just do not let them roam anywhere that you do not want a large amount of poop/urates/pee.....

Re: Bloated with poop
I agree that actually squeezing the poop out should be a last resort, but there's nothing wrong with a warm soak and gently massaging the abdomen. My female occasionally gets a little dehydrated when she's on one of her colossal fasts, and the soak/massage technique always seems to do the trick to get her to pass urates.
While a small amount of bloating is not usually harmful, it can hardly be comfortable...

That's not normally done to any snake that I'm aware of...impacted anal glands on Cockerpoodles, yes, but not on snakes.
