Am I screwed???
After arriving home today I have found my heating in the house has gone faulty and remained on full blast for the last 24 hours, as a result my eggs which are incubating steadily around 89 degrees have shot up in temperature to 98 degrees. Any one seen this before and still managed to get eggs to hatched or, like I fear am I screwed?
Any input would be greatly appreciated
One clutch is on day 39 the other is on day 5

I am still waiting for my first clutch to be laid (Due around May 12th) ... I don't know how sensitive BP Eggs are, I've heard that they are hardy, and I've heard different. I hatch chickens/ducks out every week, and we had an instance like this. Chicken/Duck eggs are kinda finiky (spelling) but, our son got a hold of one of incubator T-stats, and cranked it up to about 114, when they incubate at 99.5 +/- .2 degrees. They were on day 13. I believe they were like that for well over 12 hours. They still all hatched and were healthy chicks/ducklings 17 days later. I know some people incubate at a little higher than 88-89, to try and speed up incubation. I personally have a Herpstat 1 set at 88.9, and has been running for 6 weeks in preparation.
I'd say leave them in there, and just candle them after a few days to see if you still have veins on the newer eggs. Personally, I think you'll still be alright, it was only 24 hours, and this time of year storms roll through and knock out power for quite some time, and still hatch their babies out. Just keep your head up, and candle them after a few days to see how there doing.
Good Luck!

They might pull through. How long we're they at that temp?

Re: Am I screwed???
All I can suggest is give them the chance and keep candling to see if the veins are still growing or if they start to fade and disapear.

I left the house yesterday and temps were fine so I'd say no more then 24 hours. Assuming they don't pull through, how long do dead eggs take to decay?

X2 ^. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater quite yet...I'm betting they'll be just fine, given that it wasn't any longer than what it was. Like has been said, just keep an eye on them and you should be able to tell if they're still viable or not fairly soon.

A day isn't horrible, but I can't say that they will be fine from temps that high. Just don't give up on them yet.

Most of the times when they're subjected to higher temperatures for even a short amount of time, it may not kill them, but can cause kinking and other issues to the developing snakes. All you can do is make sure they stay at the correct temps for the rest of the incubation and hope for the best!
