    Unexpected corn snake owner

So, I went to get (read: rescue) my 3rd BP today, and ended up bringing home two sick corn snakes as well.

I got them from a pet shop - the management SUCKS, but their employees are great... a strange combo. (The mgmt at this pet store is so retarded that they have the terrarium heating wired up to the shop lighting system - so when they turn the lights off at night, they turn the heat off too. No wonder the snakes are sick.)

It was their main reptile person who asked me to take the sickies home, though there's a decent chance I'll have one euthanised tomorrow. They didn't charge for the sick snakes of course, since they'd have to pay to euthanise them (eventually, after they've suffered a few more days of course) and even sent us home with some free food in case they decided to eat. The really bad one hasn't eaten since January and has a terrible RI. We have to see how she does tonight, in a terrarium that's actually WARM and QUIET. The other one also has a RI and hadn't eaten in a month, but I got her to take a pinkie - now I'm hoping she doesn't regurg it later. Much better prospects for her, I think.

    Wish us luck!

Well, they got electrolyte baths last night because they were dehydrated, and seemed pretty stable when I went to bed. Unfortunately, the sicker of the two died quietly last night. The other snake seems stable, and has an appointment at the vet's this afternoon.

How sad, they turn their heat off at night. Some people.

Sorry you lost one. I hope the other hangs in there for you.

Over here, it's called Powerade. (So yes, the sports drink dip it was.)

The remaining corn is now hospitalised for tube feeding and rehydration, and the Doc will give me an update tomorrow afternoon.
