    Quick question on shipping costs...

    Hi guys and gals,

I am about to have my first animal shipped to me (a RTB) and have a quick question on shipping charges. I was told the snake was $XXX + shipping, and I was just told by the seller that shipping is $75 (but they dont have my address, so how would they know?).

So question is, does that sound right to you for a shipment going from TN to IN??

It seems steep to me, but I have never done this before! It seems as though most of the quotes I see are around $50-$60, but they all say they need an address to get an exact #!

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I really don't like being taken for my money!

    Thanks,
    Josh

Some people charge a base cost for shipping.. No matter where you are! Is the RTB big?

No just a late 2010 (like 2 or 3 ft).

That would really make me angry, the deal was +shipping, not +$75 no matter what!

Shipping will run 30-100+ depending on the dimensional weight of the box and actual weight.

Next day air is NOT cheap. And if paying for shipping is a burden on you, might want to rethink buying online.

I just printed out 5 labels today that totaled 215$ for small 7x7x6 boxes with hatchlings.

Rich I completely understand that is is not inexpensive, however would you not agree that just throwing out a shipping price without knowing my address seems like I am getting taken advantage of?? I have not problem paying for shipping, and yes if it were coming from the west coast, and it was $100 I would understand but we are talking about somewhere that is 7 hrs (driving) apart...If it is indeed $75 I will gladly pay it, but the thought of it being $60 (or whatever it may be), and the seller pocketing the rest seems asinine to me, and really seems like they are taking my $.

Now if they had said upfront that they charge a flat $75 fee, that would be a different story...

Some Breeders charge flat rate fees shipping west coast, east coast, north, south. But all it takes is your zipcode to get a shipping quote not address.

Shipping is often based on distance and dimensional weight, remember that printing a shipping label is not the only thing here, you also have to take in consideration the cost of the box and often the cost that occur to the seller to drop the animal off.

Here is a great article regarding the real cost of shipping http://ballpythonbreeder.com/2011/05...ping-reptiles/

I can tell you that shipping a 12x9x6 box generally cost me $40 to $70, this does not include shipping supply and gas. (the nearest drop of location being 20 miles away from me)

    I'll throw this in:
The one animal that I paid $75 to have shipped, the box was more substantial than any other that I have received. I definitely feel like I got $75 worth of shipping.
