    Newest addition

Well I found a local breeder who was selling Small rats for $1 each. So I figured it would be cheaper to buy from him and euthanize them myself. My local shop sells F/t small rats for $3. I figured this way I knew exactly when they were put down and frozen.
Anyways I decided to buy 30 of them to have a little stock pile since the guy lived a little ways from me. When I got to my truck I was putting them from the box to a huge tote, as I counted I found out I paid for 30 but ended up with 32.

Long story short the kids talked me into keeping 2 of them as pets. Since I basically ended up with 2 free I said ok. We looked through the whole lot of them and found the two healthiest looking ones. We ended up with 1 male (no mistaking this as a male) and 1 Female ( i think she is a she atleast)

I haven't decided on if I will breed or not but for now these are just pets for the kids.
Here are some pictures. They would not sit still at all so I had to take a lot of pictures just to get these.
This is polar bear the male:

and our female Dolphin....She is greyish with a white belly

Polar bear is pretty mellow once I get him out and build a little cave with the towel I have on my lap.
Dolphin she is a feisty one she doesn't sit still at all, always trying to get away from me and explore some.

So far they are pretty mellow about being handled though, Dolphin nipped me once lightly but I had just eaten and forgot to wash my hands so I will keep an eye on it.

Thanks for the info! had no idea what they were called just that we liked the way they looked and I didn't want the standard black hooded rat

I do have a question about keeping these guys though. When I had them together they were all huddled up together all the time. But since I am unsure if dolphin is really a she I don't want to risk leaving her with the male and getting pregnant right now. Since then she stays in her house way in the back and has built a pretty high nest out of shredded paper.
The male he comes out from time to time but the girl she is rarely seen. Could this be she is lonely? I know rats like being around other rats.
Would it be best to get her a friend, once I find out if she is actually a girl, or just give her as much attention as I can and let it be?

Males have hair between the "knob" and the butt and females have a pink slit from the "knob" to the butt with no hair in between.

Huddling together is very normal for rats and mice and asf's.

Well the male has very noticeable testicles and I mean very noticeable LOL

The female I have yet to see any type of bumps there even tried pushing a little back to see but never comes into view. I have tried to feel for nipples as I heard that only female rats have them but she doesn't sit still long enough for me to get a good feel ( lol sounds just wrong)
Are they going to be really noticeable at this age? I am guessing they are about a month old.
