Tractor Supply Purina Pig Grower Feed
I just got a 50# bag of Purina Pig Grower Feed from Tractor Supply. Its the small pellets. I opened the bag and everything was really damp and some stuff was clumped together with a white powdery coating on it. Is this normal? Should i let it in the sun and dry out?

The bag got wet then sit and started to grow mold. Honestly I would take it back and just go get Mazuri 6F. But to answer your question the mold will not hurt the rats. You can dry it out in the sun if you like but the rats really wont care. Good luck

Why would you suggest this?! He gets a bad bag of feed so you recommend he just waste his money going forward with Mazuri?! Sorry but IMHO this is just bad advice.
To the OP, if it were me, I would return the feed and get a new bag. Make sure you keep it in an air tight container to keep the moisture and the bugs out.
I buy my hog feed 500 lbs at a time, and I have only had to return 3 bags so far.

You would not waste your money by taking the bag back and getting Mazuri 6F like I originally stated. Mazuri 6F is made for breeding rodents and it is all I use.
Mike, as far as that bag being bad. There is nothing wrong with the food. The mold probably has more nutrients in it than the hog feed. I grew up on a dairy farm and we also raised several pigs. You get a bag that got wet big deal you feed the pigs anyway. The rats don't care I guarentee you.
Listen, take the bag back and get another or not it really doesn't matter to your rats.
Good Luck

Re: Tractor Supply Purina Pig Grower Feed
To Mike:
My wife just read this thread and told me that I was wrong to post the way I did. She informed me that if one of my bags of Mazuri 6F had mold in it that I would take it back. She also told me that My reply was kindof rude and that I am in a bad mood and need to go to bed. Ha ha. I have been working 12 hour night shifts at my power plant and I guess it is showing through.
So anyway I appolligise for my post. Mike is right about taking it back whether the mold would effect the rats or not. My wife says that it would probably not effect them in any way but it still isn't the healthiest thing for them. Just so you know my wife is the one that takes care of the rats and I tend to the snakes.
My wife did say however that taking the bag back for a refund and getting Mazuri 6F would not be a waste of money. She swears by the stuff. But she is also curious as to why so many people feed dog food and hog feed. So she at least has an open mind unlike me.
Having to work so much overtime, dealing with four kids and my know it all wife stresses me out sometimes.

Not it's not normal, water got in it and mold started to grown (it happen sometimes) simply bring it back and exchange it for another one.

The pig feed has 16% protein, 2.5% fat, and 7% fiber. It's perfect for rats and costs 12$ for a 50# bag.
