    Iguanas at Carnival? (Michigan)

I was at a local fair tonight, and saw a game tent giving Iguanas as prizes. I had no idea that they could do this? It seems like a really bad thing. I can't imagine that most of the kids winning them are prepared to care for them properly. Also, isn't their a health risk from salmonella? I am thinking of writing to the fair to complain about this. If anyone from Michigan wants to PM me, I'll let you know which fair it was. Maybe if they they receive more than one complaint, we can change this. I really hope so. I am a ball python owner myself, but could not imagine these iguanas getting the care that they need.

They would not get the care they need, not even in the least way. The kids would look at it as a cute little green lizard, then as it continues to grow their parents or they will not want it anymore, that is just saying if it lives long enough for that to happen.

Man i blame the ignorant people who decided to give away a green iguana like it was a goldfish. It does piss me off. This is another case of "Giving herpers a bad name"

I remember when I was younger and at a fair there was a tent giving out turtles as prizes. Of course as a young kid loving animals I begged my parents to play the game, but to no avail. I left the fair without a turtle. Thinking back now Im sure coming home with me would have been a rescue, and now I think how awful it is to give them away as prizes. They are living things, and shouldnt be given away to small children or to anyone for that matter.

Not a good idea. The lizards aren't even for beginers.IMO They can get 5 feet long or bigger and would not get the proper housing, food, etc.......................
