This forum is SLOW on BP.net, and perhaps we can change that this year. I got a lot more field herping done last year, and I'm planning on even more this year. I hope other people will be posting stuff too.
Today I went along on a bird count at Sheldon Lake near Houston. We beat the record of this particular count, with a few species short of a hundred. My dad ended up finding the coolest bird, a Ladder-backed Woodpecker.
Of course, the field herper in me couldn't resist flipping some of the stuff we came across. One tarp ended up having a Texas Rat Snake (Panterophis obsoletus lindheimeri), an adult and juvenile Eastern Coachwhip (Masticophis f. flagellum), and many more coachwhip eggs.
Pretty cool for early january.

Oh yeah, a few Scincella lateralis and one Agkistrodon piscivorus were also seen but not photographed.

Nice Matt, you know you should post pictures of what you find when field herping since we all know this forum is photo-crazy. You do take really nice pictures of snakes and reptiles (also amphibians!) so that would be pretty cool if you posted up pics of what you find when you field herp just so people can get an idea of how exciting it is to find these species of reptiles.
I'll add some photos of a some of the finds in 2008 later tonight, but I'm going to have to get a thread title change then.

Matt, I'm lovin' those Copperhead photos. You take some awesome photos, I really like how you take close ups of the reptiles and amphibians. Awesome job with the photos
