Calling all crested gecko owners...

I might be looking to get some crested geckos and i have 2 questions- one what does the hot spot need to be? Ive read that as longs as your house is nice and warm (which i know mine is) they dont need a heat source? Is this correct? Also can they be kept in tubs like ball pythons?

No hot spot for cresties, they do not require any additonal heat.

Yes, as long as you keep them in the high 60's and low to high 70's you are good.

Also can they be kept in tubs

Yes but unlike BP you want a tub with a nice height.

Dunno if it's covered in that link, but one thing to be aware of is that cresties do NOT tolerate temps above 82 degrees F; I generally think of 80 degrees F as a hard ceiling, temperature-wise. Exceeding 82 for any significant length of time can be harmful (like they flip out and start throwing themselves at walls, etc). Other than that, like Deborah said, anywhere from the high 60s to the high 70s, they won't need any supplemental heating.

They're pretty darn easy to take care of and are almost guaranteed to make you laugh at some point.

I keep all my cresteds in aquariums, but a friend of mine kept her breeders in those rubbermaid containers that are used to store wrapping paper...cresteds very much prefer cage height rather than having ground space since they spend most of their time in trees (or fake plants) up high.
I believe she kept her food/water dishes at the bottom which could end up being a huge pain if you have short arms! ;]
