Dwarf ball python?

A guy selling some of his collection says that one of his BPs is a rare morph called a dwarf ball python...is there such a thing?

Stunted... yes. Dwarfed.. no. Dwarfed would pretty much need to be genetic, and as far as I've EVER seen, no dwarf ball pythons. Maybe it's the dwarf retic? Doesn't the retic species have the dwarf form?

It would be stunted. I would stay away from that person personally.

As for the dwarf retics. Yes there are dwarf and even super dwarf tics. That being said they are locality retics. Dwarf retic are usually Jampea blood. Granted a jampea can get up to 12 feet. Not much of a dwarf to some, but to mainland retic owners, yes they are dwarfs. Super dwarf tics are another locality dwarf. Im not sure if the exact island has been released. They are generally referred to as kayudai. Though dwarf and super dwarves aren't always specified as a locality. I think there may be a difference between locality tics and dwarf tics. Im not totally sure on that. Maybe another tic owner can chime in on that.

I doubt its dwarf unless its coming from a well known source.

I do know of someone with a female who is 4 years old barely 800grams and eats like no tomorrow. Proving genetic dwarfism to son is in the works.

But i dont see even a proven dwarf BP being very sought after as they are already a small species, no need to be smaller.

"Technically" dwarfism can occur in nearly any species.. but it's a genetic defect, so it wouldn't have to be a hybrid. It's just that, as far as I've been able to research, there are no dwarf ball pythons anywhere. No cases of dwarfism have been PROVEN yet. If that 800 gram female manages to breed successfully and throws dwarfed size snakes that otherwise seem healthy, then you MIGHT have dwarf ball pythons. It would be kind of a neat thing, as long as the snakes don't have underlying health issues along with the "dwarfing".

I have a small spider female, heavy spinner, who eats nicely, gets fat, but doesn't really GROW. I consider her stunted rather than dwarfed though, and since she's such a bad spinner, I doubt I'd ever breed her to anything to see about it.

I knew a guy with a ghost female that bred small and didn't get bigger (I forget the exact size) but it sounded like a candidate for a genetic small ball python.

Early on Tracy Barker posted something about their new axanthic (black lace?) being small. Anyone here working with those that can confirm if that held through for captive bred generations? I'd also be interested to know if the hets are small or if it's only the homozygous that are small (maybe the same mutation is responsible for both the small size and the color).

I'd actually be interested in a healthy genetic small line of ball pythons if they would lay the same number of small eggs. I've got some monster females that I give these giant tubs and they take up a lot of space for only ever producing 13 - 14 eggs so far. One only produced 10 eggs this year (of course they where 120 gram eggs and huge hatchlings). I could put two genetic small females in the same space with lots of room and if they produced average 6-7 small eggs each I'd happy.

i dont think theres something like a dwarf ballpython. dwarf retics and dwarf burms are subspecies from another localitiy.

to my knowledge ballpythons havent even a subspecies or different locality types. there are benin and togo ans stuff, but to my knowledge they are not different in sice and look like in retics.

due to that i would say the guy who sells em is a fraut.

or he just doesnt know better. there are always people they try to sell a het pastel ball:rolleye2:
