how can you tell a specter from a normal? I've been looking at pics and still cant tell the difference. is it one of those morphs that you have to see in person to tell it apart from a normal?

I just picked picked up 5 of these. 2 of them are obvious and 3 not so much, but being that they came from a spectre breeding they will more than likely prove out. You can tell if you have to pick them out of a group, but it is another very subtle codom. It is similar to yellow belly, but imo, not nearly as as easy to pick out. When we produce a female yellowbelly that we call a maybe, we usually just keep it. They normally prove out.

what traits do they have that would tell them apart from a normal? do they have head patterns or a clear belly, flames?

They have a stripe down their neck. I think that's about the only "obvious" thing when looking at them, and they are slightly lighter than normals, but only slightly. I agree with you, they are a very hard morph to pick out! I forget about their bellies. A friend of mine just started breeding them and he was trying to explain how he can pick them out from normals. Neck stripe and color. I would never buy a spector based on those things alone!!! Make sure you (and anyone reading this) buy them from a reputable breeder. I have a feeling "spectors" are going to start popping up all over craigslist any day now.
