have you ever fed something else to your snake other than mice/rats?
well, i dont know, i have friends who feed their snakes "chicken!!" or "chicks"
    sometimes rabbits or birds.....

basically maybe because mice are more expensive then chicken!!.. but it will only be a problem if u have alot of snakes and u dont breed mice..

im talking about health wise... maybe i should make them stop.. ?

I've fed chickens/chicks to burms before, and quinea pigs. Actually, my burm went absolutely nuts for chicken. The only problem with chicken is that the stool afterwards tends to be pretty runny because of the feathers. Apparantly, they don't bind the stool like fur does. Also, I personally think chicken is not a good source of calcium, after all, their bones aren't very dense, so there can't be a lot of calcium there. I think you're ok feeding chicken every once in a while, but I wouldn't make it a mainstay of your snake's diet.

What is the obsession lately with feeding snakes something other than rodents? We need to stop putting human feelings on them. While humans would get bored eating pizza every day (ok, I wouldnt!) snakes are perfectly content with the same rat/mouse/rabbit every week.

Feel free to feed them chicks, but I hope you enjoy the watery, foul smelling feces a couple weeks later!

What you want to be careful of is spoiling your snake, feed them chicken too often, and they may start refusing other prey items, ie. rats/mice. Or you end up having to dip the rats in chicken broth to get the snake to eat them. I'm not sure about BPs, but with burms, chicken was the last resort if one was off feed. Personally, I wouldn't feed chicken more than once every 2 or 3 months. Keep in mind, all this is my completely unscientific opinion, other people may have better info than I.

well,to be honest with you. im not putting any emotions with the feeds. but i got curious because so many people are like "feed it chicken! or ducks!!" and wanned to ask before i do anything.

certainly im not interested in the watery poopie!!... like you said, you do make a point when pointing out the calcium in chicks!. so i guess they dont have the same nutrition value :)

and if they imprint on the birds... that's not a good thing at all. i would stay with mice/rats/bunnies if i were you ;)
