They are way more beautiful then the above pictures but both were really anger today so these were the only pictures I could get. Bought them as a pair a few years back from an importer and they were collected as yearlings less the 100 feet apart. I really hope it turns out to be genetic. I should have some answers this season.

my name is Mariah and I'm from Seattle, I have a 4 year old Bp named nagini. I'm not too good at navigating though this website yet but I really like the the smiley faces move! I figured it would be a great idea for me to join this site because I'm a little bit crazy for ball pythons, well maybe a little obsessed. I really would like to get in to breeding eventually. I've always loved reptiles more then others, don't get me wrong I do have a dog that's very sweet, but I feel such a different connection, with snakes especially. I also had an iguana, he is about 4 years old now too but I realized he wasn't really right for me, now my best friend has him. Then I decided to get another Bp. now I'm just rambling, I just wanted to introduce myself and what not! have a great night!

Hello!

First of all, after searching through these forums all afternoon and evening to compile information, I have to give praise to this place. I've never seen such depth/detail. So I feel like I'm in a great place.

I'm a first time/soon-to-be BP owner. I have an idea of the setup I want and money isn't an issue really. Here's what I wanna get:

Zilla 40 gallon critter cage
Exo Terra water dish
Zoo Med repti-therm UTH 8x12"
24qt aspen bedding
2 identical snug-fitting hides
Random tank decorations
Accu-rite thermometer/hygrometer
CHE
Thermostat

My questions are:

1. Should I buy a lamp stand for the CHE to keep it off the mesh lid?

2. What CHE should I buy?

3. What color/type bulb should I select?

4. What thermostat should I get to control my UTH/CHE?

I know 40 gallon tank is extreme for a juvenile/baby BP but I figure why go through the entire setup twice in its life? I plan on having the hides replaced as it grows so they stay size appropriate. Plus after I get decorations and water dish and other climbing things it won't seem so gigantic. I plan on "wallpapering" the back and sides to make it seem more confined as well.

The last thing I'm curious of:

What breeders are recommended for acquiring a normal BP as young as possible. I want it to have taken food, but I want as close to a baby as possible. And I have a couple local herp vets I've found... Do I need to take my BP in for an initial once over or are they only necessary if I suspect an illness?

Thanks so much everyone!

So today my girl friend tells me she seen two adult albino iguanas near the road. When she told me this I started looking them up and they seem to be expensive around 3000-3500 dollars. They lay around 50 eggs... I could be wrong but I think if she caught them and started breeding we could have been millionaires in ten years. Any thoughts?

This has been a really bad start to our 2012 ball season. We lost our first egg a little over a week ago, a tiny little black pastel. That was a bummer in itself, but we all lose eggs occasionally. We've tried to remain optimistic and let nature run its course with our remaining eggs. Then last night we lost another, which turned out to be a beautiful fire. Anyways, tonight we finally made the call after exhaustive research online (including a LOT of helpful information on countless posts on here!), speaking to other breeders and our vet that we must intervene if our remaining 3 eggs are to have a chance at life. We've never done this before, but I have a little formal medical training and my wife and I have both cared for many injured animals over the years so we gave it a go. It was about all we could do for these guys, even the vet said he couldn't offer much more than what we were going to have to do.

The issue we were having with these guys is they were not absorbing their yolks at all even after pipping almost a week ago and they were getting weak. We could see the yolk and it was completely solid and the babies had giant masses in their bellies. The smell was absolutely horrible and the fluid in the eggs kept turning brown and scummy almost immediately after cleaning it out. There was no progress being made naturally. So we made a makeshift ER room, washed up really good, gloved up and went to work. The short and simple description of what we had to do is tie off their umbilical cords, cut them away from their rotten yolk and express the mass inside their bellies. My poor wife (aka my nurse) was bawlin' the whole time.

I feel so horrible for the little guys as I know this had to have been unbelievably traumatic for them. They are very small and look deflated, but I'm hoping now that they are out of their eggs and aren't contending with that mass of hardened yolk in their bellies that they have a fighting chance.
Black pastel #1. Weighs 20 grams. Both this one and the second black pastel seem to have some sort of neurological disorder, similar to a spider wobble. This one appears very active and curious.
Black pastel #2. Weighs 21 grams.

Pastel. Weighs 27 grams. This one is the largest and outwardly looks the healthiest.
